Additional Features
Here
are some of
the new features you can expect to see when RuneScape II comes out:
3D
Graphics
Runescape II will run on a new game engine. As a result, Jagex will be able to
convert all characters, items, monsters, NPCs, areas, and everything else, into
3D figures. The graphics are
reportedly being compacted and take up less kb, so their will not be a problem
for people with old computers. For screenshots of the new graphics, browse
through the screenshot link in the Runescape Realm’s featured Runescape
II section.
Cut Scenes
Do you remember when you get fast appearing, hard to read textual messages every
time something interesting happens after a quest? Those were actually cut
scenes. Runescape was not advanced enough to provide real cut scenes but
Runescape II will definitely change that. Starting
December 1 for members trying the beta version, Jagex will be able to
choreograph video clips. For
example, anybody who completes the Demon Slayer quest in Runescape II will
actually be able to see Delrith being sucked into the dimensional portal!
Other cut scenes will be created to represent specific events, mainly quest
endings. Whenever you talk to an NPC, his/hers/its head will appear next
to the script with animated features.
Multi-Player Combat
This is a new feature that allows multiple characters to team-up against a
single foe. For example, three players can gang up on a King Black Dragon, thus
seemingly making the fight less difficult. Instead of having an option to toggle
on and off the multi-way combat, there will be specific areas for multi-way
combat. Meaning you can gang up on monsters, but they can gang up on you. It
has been reported that while this option is toggled on, multiple monsters will
be able to attack a single player, or groups of players. Thus, it may be
possible for entire battles to occur with this feature, when a group of monsters
engages a group of cooperative players. There is no known limit to the
amount of people able to battle.
Bank-to-Bank Trading
This feature will allow two players to trade through their bank accounts, rather
than their inventories. Up until this point, all trades were made using the
inventories of two players. This led to some serious limitations. For example,
players could not trade large amounts of items that could not be converted into
stackable certificates. All un-stackable items had to be traded by initiating
multiple trades, and this led to many scams; people agreed to pay before or
during the trade, and the other would back out once the payment was received, or
a player would agree to pay after the trade, and then backed out before
the final sequence. With bank-to-bank trading, this will be prevented. All
items are stacked in your bank account, so all items will be stacked during
trades. Because of this, however, certificates will become obsolete. Thus, they
will be converted back into their base commodity when Runescape II comes out.
War Hammers
Few details are actually known about war hammers, other than the fact that they
will exist. The war hammer could be a new specific weapon in an existing class.
If this is the case, they will presumably be in the mace class, as they are
blunt weighted objects on a long shaft. Or, they could be a new weapon class
altogether. If this happens, there will most likely be different types of war
hammers, just as there are different types of swords and axes. Also, they could
be made out of the current Runescape metals (bronze, iron, steel, Mithril, Adamantite,
rune, and possibly dragon) as all other weapons are, or they could become
mystical weapons, with magical properties. Or, Jagex could do both. As I said
before, little is known about war hammers, other than that they exist.
A More Efficient Inventory
The Runescape inventory system is being entirely revamped. Currently, all
players have thirty inventory spaces, to hold all the items they wish to carry.
This includes both wearable items, such as armor, weapons, and accessories, as
well as objects such as ores, fish, certificates, and etcetera. In Runescape II,
there will be a new window for wearable items. This will be separate from the
standard inventory, and will allow players to wear their gear without taking up
precious inventory space. The inventory itself appears to be somewhat smaller
than the current one – only twenty-eight spaces. However, because weapons,
armor, and other clothing will no longer take up inventory space, you will (in
effect) have more space to hold your stuff.
Wearable Rings
Yes, you read right – those useless rings will be wearable in Runescape II!!
However, like war hammers, little else is known about wearable rings, other than
the fact that they exist. They are likely going to need to be enchanted, and
will probably be weaker versions of their corresponding amulets (such as a ruby
ring will give power points, but not as many as a ruby amulet would). But again,
little is known about this concept.
Mystical Weapons and Armour
These are weapons and armor with magical powers! Mystical weapons and armor will
be given as quest rewards, or dropped by powerful monsters. They will posses
magical properties that give the wearer a distinct edge in battle. For a purely
hypothetical example, there may be a weapon known as the “Toxic Rune Battle
Axe”, which poisons your opponent, as a poisoned arrow or dagger would. There
may also be a corresponding “Large Rune Helmet of Antibody”, which would
provide the bearer with immunity against poisonous attacks. Keep in mind that
the two listed above are just hypothetical guesses as to what could be
included in this new aspect of Runescape.
New Combat System
There will be a new type of fighting. It will consist of stabs slashes and
crushes. We can assume things like stabs and slashes will most likely come from
swords and crushes will most likely come from War hammers, and battle axes will
most likely be slashes. The
new type of combat style armor will now have stab and crush and stab defense
according to the armor type. It's probable that the chain main will help against
slashes but be less effective to stabs and crushes, while plate mail will be
effective against crush and stab attacks. Combat level will also change, but the formula is unknown to
this point. It has been confirmed
that level will be divided into three categories: melee, mage, and ranging,
depending on your strongest skill. Melee
is strong against ranging, ranging is strong against mage, and mage is strong
against melee.
Weight
This will affect fatigue. Larger
items will probably have more weight. The more you are wearing, the faster you
will get fatigued. A new ability to run will also be added after the
beta. More weight will slow you down.
New Camera Angles
You will now have the ability to move your camera angle up and down by using the
up and down arrows keys. As always your character is the central pivot point.
There will also be the new feature of a first person view.
User-Friendly Interface
Users now have a better interface to cast Spells and use Prayer. There is a menu
with all of the abilities on one page, which will result in easy casting and a
much faster system of finding the Spell / Prayer you wish to use. It will make
switching Prayer or finding your only available spells a lot quicker.
New Prayer
A new high level prayer will be added with the release of Runescape II. But
little is known about it, except for the fact that you will need more than level
40 prayer to use it.
Better-Looking Objects on the Map
No longer will RuneScape players be plagued with small blue squares to represent
objects. Instead, some objects such as trees will actually have their own small
picture on the map. Rumor has it that other objects will also have their own
pictures on the map.
Multiple People Talking to One NPC
The improved conversation features hundreds of characters, with fully animated
facial expressions. It lets you read important plot info at your own speed, and
also allows multiple people to talk to important characters at once while
avoiding queuing on new quests.
New Magic System And Look
The new magic system that will be implemented in Runescape II features a more
organized spell list which will lead to faster spell casting. Also spells no
longer are portrayed with blue little balls, but rather each will have its own
animation.
More Features for Players
There are lots more choices of appearance than there were before with lots of
heads, bodies, arms, and legs to choose from. To allow existing players to take
advantage of the new choices, everyone will get a free chance to redesign/tweak
how they look when the update is released.
Bigger
Game Window
The
Runescape II game window is larger than before, so Jagex recommends that users
running at a resolution of 800x600 use Full screen mode in the Internet Explorer
window (press F11). Then auto-hide the top navigation bar by right clicking on
it and selecting 'auto-hide'.
World
Map
The
map will be much larger and spread out so the distance between cities will also
be changed. Also the map "tiles" are larger, so the first time
you go to a new map that you have never been to before, it will take a long time
(seconds) to load, but you will have less of these than before. The
ability (which is not in beta) to run will make the distance seem shorter.
Chat
Engine
The
new chat engine is similar to the old one, but contains the following new
commands:
-
green: (message)
-
red:
-
cyan:
-
yellow:
-
purple:
-
white:
These commands are similar to the @ran@ command, but slightly
different:
-

-
flash2:
-
flash3:
-

-
glow2:
-
glow3:
Effects you can add your messages
-
