Getting Started (Playing)
First of all you must create an account to play in Runescape.
Click on the play
game link from the Official Runescape main page. This will take you to a
screen which gives you the option to play the free game or the member's game.
Click the Free Game link for
now, if you want to play on the Member's
Version, you can sign up for that
later.
The World Screen will load now. Find the server closest to your location, and then click on a server with how ever many people you want. Server with less people are usually faster.
There is no difference between each world, just the players on them. Your
can play on every one, you don't have to make a new account for a new server.
The game download will begin after you have clicked on the link, and will take approximately
5 minutes on a dial-up connection. After you have downloaded it once, you
never have to download it again, the server will automatically see whether you
have the complete game.
When the game has loaded you will be presented with a login screen. You will need to choose the option of "New User" and then decide on a username and password for your account. Make sure you pick a name that you will like, because you cannot change usernames unless you wish to start over with a new account.
Then the character selection will come up. Customize your character any way you wish. There is an option in game for you to change your appearance again, though beware it will cost you Runescape money for such a privilege so make sure your character design choices are ones you like! When the new Runescape 2 comes out, you will be able to reselect your characters traits on your first load of the game.
Once you have finished you should click the submit button which will launch your character into our tutorial Island!
When you first log in, you will start in "Tutorial
Island." As your move from each of the "stations" to
the next, you will learn something particular about Runescape. Some
of the things you learn will be combat, cooking, banking, the wilderness,
fishing, banking, and much more. After you complete the Tutorial, (which
should only take 15 minutes), you will take a boat to Lumbridge, where all new
people begin.
Your boat has arrived in Lumbridge, and you are suddenly in the mix of the Runescape world. Most new players usually take a little time to explore the castle to your south (look on your map for the compass), before starting to get some levels. Go north of your starting position up the road, on your west side there will be a general store, where you can buy basic goods, you might want to see what they have for sale here later. A little bit up the road their will be a bridge on your eastern side. The little building there is a smelting furnace, ignore this for later. After crossing the bridge, you will see goblins (lvl 7) around you, and keep going until you reach another north south road, go north up this road. You will pass cows on the east, keep going, don't go in the fence, go up a little further until you see chickens on your western side. Start attacking this chickens by right clicking, and then clicking "attack chicken"
